First Christian Church members and friends support and contribute items to many local area organizations that help those in need – of food, housing and a variety of items – within our own community. All of the local outreach touches the very young to the very old and all in between. The following is a sample of where our gifts go to:

Alpha House – Our Christian Women Fellowship (CWF) group collects baby items for local area mothers and babies that need assistance.

Rosewood Nursing Home – Christmas Stockings – Donations are received from the members and friends of FCC. The Outreach committee supplies the stockings; and, supplements the donations of personal items and gifts for those at the nursing home. Our youth help to deliver the stockings and also sing Christmas carols while they visit Rosewood and other senior facilities.

Council on Aging – The Outreach and CWF groups provide fans and/or cash donations to assist our local area elderly beat the heat and humidity of our warm (hot) summers.

Favor House – The CWF group collects items in time for Mothers’ Day to provide little personal gifts of lotions, creams, etc., for abused women in the local area.

Habitat for Humanity – Cash donations are given to assist in the building of a home for those in need.

Humane Society – Outreach sometimes set up a donation box in the summer; and other years a cash donation is sent to assist the local branch of the Humane Society.

Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen and Shelter – Excess, cooked food from the Senior Adult Luncheons and other events are taken to the soup kitchen; and, the Outreach committee has also authorized the purchase of food items for the kitchen. These gifts assist in the feeding of the homeless in the local area and/or the families that are in the shelter.

Manna Food Bank – Throughout the year numerous donations of food and cash are provided to Manna. Located in the Challenger Sunday school classroom, a permanent box is used to collect monthly donations of food from members and friends; our youth donate a portion of their profits from their annual Super Bowl Sub sales; the Christian Women Fellowship (CWF) collects food each summer; and, our Outreach Committee has also provided funds or food.

Ronald McDonald House – The Hungry Disciples group takes food and various needed items each month to help support the families that are away from home and have children hospitalized in our local area. A special treat of Red Beans and Rice is provided by Cary and Sarah Reeves; and, then the group joins together for dinner at a local restaurant. Additionally, we participate in the collection of aluminum pop tops for Ronald’s House.

Thanksgiving Turkey Boxes – Donations are received from the congregation. The Outreach committee purchases the turkey, pies and bread; and, then supplements the donated items to provide an entire meal – turkey to dessert to numerous families in need. The boxes are filled based on the size of the family; and, volunteers deliver them on Sunday before Thanksgiving.
